One Step Away hosts the Knock Out Homelessness Fundraiser each May at Chickie’s & Pete’s.  The event enables us to continue to offer people experiencing homelessness meaningful income and personal growth opportunities while working to create solutions to housing insecurity. In 2015, we celebrated our 5th Anniversary and honored Matthew Saad Muhammad’s boxing legacy and contributions to the homeless community.  This year’s special guests included Cruiserweight Champion and local boxing legend Nate Miller, Super Middleweight Champion Jesse Hart, NFL great and former Philadelphia Eagle Irving Fryar, and our guest host, NBC 10 Anchor and former Philadelphia Eagle, Vai Sikahema.

You can also help Knock Out Homelessness in your community. One Step Away's Knock Out Homelessness event is built around Chickie's & Pete's interactive gaming complex, where people who want to help break the cycle of homelessness engage in video boxing matches for charity. Several area high schools have joined One Step Away and are throwing "Knock Out Homelessness" events in their communities, with a portion of the proceeds going to One Step Away's efforts to fight homelessness. All it requires is a few Wii or Playstation gaming systems, a place to stand and the desire to fight homelessness.

If you'd like to throw a "Knock Out Homelessness" event in your community, please contact One Step Away's director Emily Taylor at emilyt@rhd.org or 215-951-0300 (ext. 3595).
